About Motor Row
The Motor Row District is a historic district in Chicago's South Loop. Motor Row includes historic buildings on Michigan Avenue just South of Cermak, directly west of McCormick Place convention center, and The district was built between 1905 and 1936 by a number of notable architects. At Chicago Motor Row's peak, as many as 116 different makes of automobiles were sold and repaired on the street.
Recently the City of Chicago designated the strip for redevelopment as a new entertainment and dining district in McCormick Place area. The former Motort Row showrooms of Ford, Buick, Fiat, Cadillac, Hudson, Locomobile, Marmon, are being redeveloped into theater, restaurant, bar, nightclubs, hotel and retail storefronts.
New major hotels in the the Motor Row area include The Chicago Marriott Marquis, The McCormick Hiltons (3 hotels), Hyatt Regency McCormick Center and several new boutique hotels in the planning.
New Motor Row restaurants include Lips Drag Queen Show Place Restaurant and Bar , Vu Skyward Rooftop Restaurant & Bar, Il Culaccino Chicago, Fatpour Tapworks and 14 Parrish.
Theater and Entertainment on Motor Row are represented by Lips Drag Queen Show Palace and The Windy City Playhouse. Windy City has TWO separate theaters
The area is also home to new event venues specializing in parties of all types for groups up to 1000. These event spaces include Revel, Row24 and The Zephyr.
